How do I fill in an object with a solid color in autocad?

I tried hatching it and I can’t get it to work. I know im probably doing somehting wrong, can someone plz give me a step by step procedure? Thanks.

    First of all, make sure the polygon you are trying to hatch is closed (no gaps at the angle points). IF it is, then make sure that the current layer is on (it may not be).

    If that doesn’t work, try typing “audit” and let autoCAD fix any errors in the drawing.
